Ive got a question that Im stumped on. Two days ago I acquired a ~ 6 foot Boa constrictor imperator from a local guy who had the animal dropped off on his doorstep one day out of the blue a few days ago. I had posted looking for snakes for O. hannah food and he contacted me asking me if I wanted it because the animal was in bad shape and was very mean and he wanted to be rid of it. So I picked it up and it was in rough shape. It had severe nose rub and the worst respiratory infection Ive ever seen. The mouth was severely swollen and as I had acquired the animal to use as king food, my plan had been to euthanize it. In my attempt to come up with the best way to euthanize the animal I decided that a lethal infection would possibly be the best and most humane way. Therefore, I diluted 114 mg of Naja kaouthia venom into 1 ml of saline and injected the solution 1/2 in into the animals brain right behind the eye. Operating under the LD50 of 0.53 mg/kg for Naja kaouthia the injection wouldve been about ~20 times the lethal dose for the animal. So i anticipated immediate death, if not at least immediate paralysis. 1 hour later the animal was still moving, and still capable of striking as it struck at me multiple times. Im curious if anyone can conjure an explanation? Because Im stump.
