Ive got a theory, really more a suspicion, and maybe one of you - TopicsExpress

Ive got a theory, really more a suspicion, and maybe one of you who knows more about it could help confirm it or disabuse me. Anyway, it goes like this--big corporations have begun profitizing manufactured outrage. Either ad agencies or the companies themselves have figured out that the best way to generate buzz is to play off the divided loyalties and philosophies of the left and right wings of the political spectrum, and when they need to increase sales on a big merchandise push for a show about duck hunting, they get one of the stars to say something homophobic, then fire him, and a very short time later, relent and rehire him, ensuring their target demographic has bought everything they can with his picture on it to support him. Or when they want a bump in their cereal sales, they run an a benign ad that no sane person in this day and age would object to featuring a bi-racial family, and then publicize racist tweets in response to it in order to make the company seem brave and avant garde, without taking a real stand on any significant issue. Am I right?
