Ive got good news and bad news to tell you about the Sportsmens Bill weve been alerting you to. First the good news: Your pressure is working! Right now, the radical gun-grabbing Democrats who were scheming to amend anti-gun amendments into this bill have been exposed by your phone calls. As a result of your activism, Harry Reid cannot get away with letting those anti-gun amendments come up for a vote. Thats because he knows his vulnerable anti-gun allies like Mark Pryor (D-AR), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Mark Begich (D-AK) and Kay Hagan (D-AK) will be put in a very tough spot. Remember, the whole point of this Sportsmens Bill was to let vulnerable Democrats pad their voting records with a pro-gun vote, even though the bill does virtually nothing for gun owners. The goal was to pull one over on you, because these Senators have spent the last year voting for gun control and opposing real meaningful pro-gun reforms almost every chance they got. They fear unless they try something, theyll be held accountable in November. That leads me to the bad news: Harry Reid is so hell-bent on letting his fellow anti-gun Democrats check the pro-Second Amendment box on their résumés, hes hijacking this bill for them. Reid is trying to force it to a vote without any input from pro-gun Senators using a process called filling the tree. What this means is that Harry Reid has selfishly dictated that there will be no meaningful amendments at all. Since this bill does almost nothing to protect or restore your Second Amendment rights, theres virtually no reason to support it without pro-gun amendments. Now, in the U.S. Senate, the supposedly more deliberative of the two houses of Congress, every bill has an opportunity for amendments and input from Senators before its passed. But that wont happen this time. Instead, only the amendments Harry Reid hand-picks will be allowed to be considered. Those are likely to be more do-nothing amendments -- or worse. Every proposal to make this so-called Sportsmens Bill a real pro-Second Amendment bill have already been shot down by the Senates dictator, Harry Reid. All because Reid is more interested in protecting the political keisters of his friends than supporting your right to keep and bear arms. Yesterday we told you that we were working closely with pro-gun U.S. Senators to offer a response to the anti-gunners assault. We worked with the offices of Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Ted Cruz on several real pro-gun amendments for this bill. But because of Harry Reids selfish trick, none of them will EVER see the light of day. The pro-gun proposals would have restored Second Amendment rights to residents of the District of Columbia, and repealed the Post Office Gun Ban once and for all. They would have also blocked Obama from using his executive powers to shut down bank accounts of gun manufacturers and sellers. But Harry Reid wont budge. Make no mistake, the Sportsmens Bill as written, is a farce and none of Harry Reids hand-picked selfish amendments are going to make it any better.
