Ive got this on Craigslist, too. Acoustic Musicians for Axis of Awesome type group I am a singer and bassist (I also dabble on guitar/piano/drums) in my early 40s; I have lots of gigging experience in several bands over the years, and Id like to try to assemble a small (3? maybe 4) group of people to play acoustic-styled music with a humorous slant. If youve seen videos on YouTube for the Axis of Awesome, thats not a bad place to start; even some of the Flight of the Conchords vibe isnt totally off the mark. If youre old enough to know the Smothers Brothers, theres even some inspiration there. But, as is the case with those groups, as well as the better purveyors of the primary stylistic genres Id want to cop (Moxy Fruvous, the acoustic side of Barenaked Ladies, etc.) it has to be GOOD; well-played, well-sung, good harmonies, smart arrangements. Basically, Im looking to create a coffeehouse-friendly group that will actively engage the audience with intelligent humor and musical fun, playing covers, parodies, classic television theme songs and commercial jingles, and other songs of that ilk. Im not looking to get famous or make money doing this, I have a life, a family, and my own business. But I want folks who will take it seriously (enough to play a couple times a month) if we can get it off the ground. I would prefer to play mostly upright bass, but also own and can play several other bass instruments. Ill need at least one talented acoustic guitarist, and then perhaps a multi-instrumentalist who can play something like piano/fiddle/mandolin/lap steel/didgeridoo/whatever. Being able to sing is of utmost importance to me, however - this group should be able to sing three-part harmonies comfortably. Gender is not important, neither is age - as long as you can play and sing, and you preferably dont smoke, I am interested to see what you have to offer. I am based in Mullica Hill and have room for practices. I hope to assemble some people and see if we jive - and put a few tunes together. If we like where its going, well pursue it.
