Ive got to say, really, I woke today with some thoughts rolling around in my head, and I said, well screw it, why not put it on Facebook. We dont understand what is wrong with our society, we think we do, but we do not. We think we can change things via economic means, and through the very careful discussion of social policy, but how far has that really gotten us? Thats all we seem to focus on, talking about policy, making new policies, amending old policies, but this is just a useless activity, unless you want to learn about the academics of how to be a Machiavellian egotist. Im not sure if Im sorry to say, but I say it with a slightly heavy heart, because it makes change so much harder. Change must start with the individual, in their own heart, in their own minds, in their own soul. The transformation must come from within. People have to embrace altruistic (not unrealistic) tenets, to live their lives to quote John Lear, without Envy, hate, or greed., and to spread a message of compassion, humility, caring, charity, and ultimately, love. If we do not start with that kind of change, in the here and now, in the present moment, not in the distant future or in a bill that well amend in a few years, but now, there will be a very bleak future on our horizon, as there has been for centuries. We must learn to love each other, not on some superficial level where we smile and get along for the sake of our own personal gain, but true community, true fellowship, and true altruism. When these principles are embraced by the many, and by the few, we will see great change, but when they are abandoned, relegated, twisted, and even forgotten, we lose ourselves in the process.
