Ive gotten back in the saddle with a lot of things. Making out - TopicsExpress

Ive gotten back in the saddle with a lot of things. Making out better grocery lists. Menu planning. Budgeting. Deep cleaning... and by the way if you havent started my deep cleaning challenge of spending 30 minutes every morning deep cleaning, you should join me! My house is getting a thorough cleaning, with just a bit of time and elbow grease, and will be ready for fall decorating next week! Its SOOO much nicer than having to do a HUGE job all at once. I do about 30 minutes (sometimes more, and some days I cant squeeze it in) pretty much daily. Just pick ONE job and tackle it for thirty minutes. A job once begun really is half done. Anyway, with my return to more thrifty living, Ive been challenging myself to save a bit of money here and there. My newest and one of my favorite finds is making sort of homemade body wash. I say sort of, because it just involves grating soap and water...easy peasy. Some folks dont bother to spend money on body wash and just use bar soap, so it wont save everyone. But I prefer body wash (though all the boys in the family just use bar soap). So! Here is how I did it. Grate: two bars of original dove soap {I use the off brand Kirkland from Costco, or off brand at Walmart} From Costco they are 4.5 ounce bars for .67 cents a bar Grate one bar Dove brand Plum and Sakura blossom scent { I loved the smell and pretty pinky~lilac color of this one best} A six pack of these bars at walmart cost 6.88 so 1.15 a bar. I may be able to find this more cheaply else where, but havent yet. Place these in a metal pot (not coated or you may not get the soapy smell out) with 7~8 cups of water. You have to stir and cook this for quite a while to get all of the soap to dissolve. It will seem REALLY thin, but thats o.k. it thickens a few hours after it cools. {I do my deep cleaning, cooking or laundry while this is going to kill a few birds with one stone.} After it cools and thickens, use a funnel and pour into your bottles. 1.15+.67+.67= $2.49 for 64 ounces of body wash which= .04 cents an ounce, verses about .25 cents an ounce store bought. You may not have time or desire, but its MY new favorite! It is a lovely soft hand and body soap that works, smells wonderful and looks pretty. I used it to fill my hand soap containers and body wash ones too. Alrighty! Done with cooking, eating and cleaning up a BIG Saturday morning breakfast. Deep cleaning in the kitchen done. Hair cuts given and cleaned up after. Laundry started and a tink of vacuuming. Now for Bible study and to work on my Ladies Retreat Lesson and my Roundhouse Lesson. Then hopefully some sewing and a walk! Love you all! Have a super di duper day!
