Ive gotten heat for saying this in the past, but you shouldnt make zombie movies that dont have zombies in them. And this film is just that. The vampires even function almost identical to zombies. I also have very specific opinions about what vampires are and are not, so I wasnt too fond of what they did in this movie in that respect. However, this is a film that should be forgiven for what it is not because of what it is. Its not perfect, but it is a beautiful, rare example of quiet, character driven horror that attempts to make a legitimate point about the world we live in now. And it does so without sacrificing its characters integrity. It does get a little ham fisted in the anti-religion stuff, but it tries. And as Ive also said in the past, its better to try and fail than not try at all and make me look at a blonde running down a dirt road in her underwear. Again.
