Ive had 4 chimney swifts for a little over 3 weeks....all are flying except for one-when she tries, she just........drops, like a lead weight. Its as though her wings dont work...so, anticipating trouble, (and ready to release her 3 siblings) I texted my vet contact at OVS yesterday-he was off work, so he texted another vet that was on duty. Finally, it was suggested I show up at OVS, with the swift, between 2-5pm. I grabbed the swift at 4:30, stuck her to my shirt, and drove 35 minutes to OVS....only to be told they were too busy to x-ray the wing. So......this morning, I did it all over again---swift stuck to shirt, zooming down Hwy 75 at 10:00am....finally, an x-ray was taken....and it showed NOTHING broken. But I swear, theres something just WRONG, that this bird cant fly. Shes definitely the runt of the litter, the last egg, so to speak...but the others have been flying for over a week...this is making me a little bit crazy...
