Ive had a close friend try a silencing tactic on me once. I just wanted to switch off and eat, so I didnt call him on it, but now I wonder what would have happened if I did. To be fair, I dont think he realised what he was doing. The guys (and girls!!) Ive known who tread into these conflicts do so accidentally and obliviously, but almost all of them have meant well. Gender things can be so ingrained in social culture, the creepy broken bits are easy to miss. Sometimes counter-aggression is the only way to stop harassment, but as much as I can, I try to start with gentle communication: did you notice?, do you realise? and hey, actually... Bloody hard when Ive got my rage on, tho! XD
