Ive had a couple days process the results of a neck MRI performed this past Wednesday. Ive been noticing neck pain and atrophy of my left hand to a point it is noticeable. I have fasciculation in the left hand now too. I was thinking I had another herniated disc from all the football I played this summer and fall. Home traction and massage helped but not fully. I am so concerns about the future. I have a syringomyelia, which is very basically, a fluid filled cyst in the cervical spinal cord. One develops primarily from repetitive/recurring injury, severe trauma or malignancy. I live in the repetitive category (playing backyard tackle football or turkey bowls). Management and prognosis is all based on symptoms in hands or pain. Treatment attempting to evacuate the cyst with a small needle and often draining fluid for months. Do not desire a procedure where a needle is placed into the cervical spinal cord which has defined neurological side effects. Got a follow up MRI in September, but if symptoms get worse then scan. I was wishing for more complexity and stress in life.
