Ive had a love hate relationship with videogames over the years. I dont have any on my phone, I havent had a console player since ps2 although I did spend countless hours honing super Mario kart skills on the SNES, played more countless hours of commadore 64 games, ps1 and 2 games, also civilization was played to extreme ends.. Some of my oldest bestest friends make video games, the kind that take thought, persistence etc. I do think videogames can actually teach kids/people some valuable lessons.. But they are-can also be an addiction like any other. In the end I stopped playing games because I just figured Id rather do something thats productive in a real sense rather than in a virtual sense. The sense of accomplishment, excitement, one gets from video games is real but I distinctly remember when I realized the difference between real and virtual accomplishments. I had just received a perfect score in vaulting on the commadore 64 olympic games and I proudly told my mom. She says, but you didnt really get a perfect score in vaulting, its just a video game.. After some thought I realized she was right. Not that Im judging anyone for their game playing but if you did something of value to yourself, your family, society for even half the time you spend playing games, imagine what that might yield.
