Ive had a rough week, but Im encouraged by the number of people - TopicsExpress

Ive had a rough week, but Im encouraged by the number of people who saw and enjoyed a debate that I was seriously concerned would send people running for the hills. A friend of Beths is visiting tonight and were going to go tubing on the Guadalupe river tomorrow. A bucket of margaritas, some sun screen, inner tubes... Sunday I think Im doing the TV show and a podcast late in the evening. Ive got to drop a few more resumes, shoot some videos for the new Patreon channel (hopefully itll go live soon) and set up a blog for things that dont quite work in a video. Our world isnt perfect, but we can improve it. Our countries arent perfect, but we can improve them. Our movements arent perfect, but we can improve them. Were not all going to agree, but if we cant agree that good arguments, supported by evidence, are the principle method by which we SHOULD be reaching agreement, its going to be much more difficult. Ill have a lot of comments on the debate with Sye, now that its been seen by a lot of people. I made a few mistakes (one Ive already corrected) and I have some additional thoughts and ideas that might have helped, but overall I think it was one of my better debates (warts and all). One thing Ill note here: As I said after the debate was over, I dont plan to engage with Sye again, in any form. I may find myself in another debate with a presuppositionalist, but I dont plan to engage with the non-debating presuppers that Sye seems to be the poster child for. Im convinced, though not certain, that hes far more interested in attention than discussion. Ive also seen him be both hypocritical and disrespectful. He genuinely doesnt seem to understand how big of an ass he is. But, on the subject of debates, heres an example I meant to use and, unfortunately, didnt: I own a car. If Sye came over to my house, I could show him the car and hed agree that I have a car. We could start it up, he could inspect it and we could agree that it seems to be in good working order. If thats the case, then why is it that when I say to him Lets go for a ride in the car and see whats on the other side of that hill...he replies with Id really like to do that, but you dont understand WHY your car works. I understand why it works, but since you dont, we cant use it. Because thats very similar to what hes saying about the absolutes. Whenever I asked a question, the answer was either some version of because god or that WOULD be a good question, if you could account for the logical absolutes, but you cant know that youre not a brain in a vat, so... followed by no actual answer. More later.
