Ive had doubts about fate/kismet, that everything is happening for a reason/as it should, in particular when seeing suffering in places like Iraq and Gaza. Though in ones individual life - well for the privileged who live in areas where war is not a concern, and for whom food and basic amenities are not a worry - it can seem that things happen to a certain purpose, for a certain reason. Kurt Vonnegut once wrote that he felt his life was being pulled in a certain direction, though he admits to being among the privileged with a relatively comfortable life.
