Ive had some questions asked of me over the last few days about this red stool by the door thing. Answer: When I was a kid, I would often go with my mother to Joan Robinsons house on Chebeague Island when the women would have coffee together. I always sat on a stool next to the door...and listened to them talk and loved being in that place. Very warm memories. Last Christmas, Mum gave me a kitchen stool very similar to it. Id always had the idea to write a show around a single red kitchen stool. And every year I write a new musical for Mechuwanas Elementary Music Theatre Camp which I direct. So this years show is called The Red Stool by the Door and is, in a nutshell, a childs quest to figure out what what we all have in common. 1. To have a few good friends. 2. To find our purpose. 3. To be sad once in a while. 4. To love and be loved. 5. To be accepted for who we are. 6. To laugh once in a while. And all this is learned while....sitting on a red stool by the door!
