Ive had these videos saved in my favorites forever on Youtube and I think I should share them. Theyre worth the time, you might actually learn something too; they contain a pretty broad range of subjects. And in the past year I had a lot of spare time, attending a school that didnt care about attendance, then taking a job where I work full time for 18 hours a week, so I spent that time reading books. If you want some books to read, here are a few that I went through and would recommend. Each one of these books offered something to me, so perhaps they can to someone else: 1. 23 Things They Dont Tell You About Capitalism- Ha Joon Chang 2. The Secret Teachings of All Ages- Manly P. Hall 3. On China- Henry Kissinger 4. The Ascent of Money- Niall Furgeson 5. The Reckoning: Financial Accountability and the Rise and Fall of Nations- Jacob Soll 6. The Story of Philosophy- Will Durant 7. Psychotherapy East and West- Alan Watts 8. Masks of God- Joseph Campbell 9. Man, The Grand Symbol of Mysteries- Manly P. Hall 10. The Golden Builders- Tobias Churton 11. The Three Dangerous Magi: Osho, Gurdjieff, Crowley- P.T. Mistleberger 12. The Closing of the American Mind- Allan Bloom 13. A General Reformation of the World- Trajano Boccalini (1613) - Two of the books I recommended are by a guy named Manly P. Hall, a lot of the things he writes I dont agree with, however, no matter which one of his books one reads he offers a lot even if its one quote per book that he can offer. President Ronald Reagan has used some of his material for a speech he made in the past, so he writes quite beautifully. For example: 1. It is not an easy task to unite the efforts of the human race toward the accomplishment of any common good. Mankind in majority is selfish, provincial in attitude, and concerned primarily with creature comforts. It will not be possible to build an enduring peace until the average man has been convinced that personal selfishness is detrimental to personal happiness and personal success. It must be shown that self-seeking has gone out of fashion, and that the world is moving onto a larger conception of living. 2. Philosophy set up house in the world to free men by freeing them of their own inordinate desires and ambitions. It saw selfishness as the greatest crime against the common good, for selfishness is natural to all who are untutored. It recognized that the mind has to be trained in the laws of thinking before men are capable of self-rulership. And it knew that the democratic common wealth can be a reality only when our world is a world of self-ruling men. 3. Barbarism ends with the beginning of world civilization. To be civilized, according to Cicero, is to reach that state of personal and collective behavior in which men can live together harmoniously and constructively, united for the betterment of all. By this definition, we have never been civilized. We have existed in a state of cultured savagery.
