Ive heard this story before, but as I posted the quote below from Oswald Chambers, it came back to me. The sacrifice, the blood shed, and Jesus death on the cross was done to give us all something we didnt deserve...the opportunity to be with Jesus in heaven. We were shown grace and mercy from the cross. Grace: Where we get what we really dont deserve. Mercy: Where we dont get what we really do deserve. Because of our sin, we deserved to die, but because of His grace, we can spend eternity with Him. May the story about C. S. Lewis and the words from Oswald Chambers both comfort us in knowing our future is secure when we give our live to Him! Story: During a British conference on comparative religions, experts from around the world were discussing whether any one belief was unique to the Christian faith. They began eliminating possibilities. Incarnation? Other religions had different versions of gods appearing in human form. Resurrection? Again, other religions had accounts of return from death. The debate went on for some time, until C. S. Lewis wandered into the room. “What’s the rumpus about?” he asked, and heard in reply that his colleagues were discussing Christianity’s unique contribution among world religions. In his forthright manner, Lewis responded, “Oh, that’s easy. It’s grace.” From Oswald Chambers: Christ’s resurrection destiny— His foreordained purpose— was to bring “many sons to glory” (Hebrews 2:10). The fulfilling of His destiny gives Him the right to make us sons and daughters of God. We never have exactly the same relationship to God that the Son of God has, but we are brought by the Son into the relation of sonship. When our Lord rose from the dead, He rose to an absolutely new life— a life He had never lived before He was God Incarnate. He rose to a life that had never been before. And what His resurrection means for us is that we are raised to His risen life, not to our old life. One day we will have a body like His glorious body, but we can know here and now the power and effectiveness of His resurrection and can “walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).
