Ive just about finished this book. It is the most comprehensive book on climate change adaptation and mitigation that I have read - and Ive read a lot of these kinds of books. Think Omnivores Dilemma, except instead of looking at the food system, Marks looking at how the world is acting (or not) in regards to preparing for the coming changing climate. He delves into various US cities (Chicago, Kings County, New York, and the state of California), China, Burkina Faso, the UK, Bangladesh, Germany, and other places with a well rounded, balanced voice. Theres a lot of work to be done if we wish to make the adaptations as painlessly as possible - and a lot of moral questioning behind whether we let the poorer nations fend for themselves, or if we, as the industrialized North, have a responsibility to pay compensation (as our richness is due to the exploiting of the fossil fuels that are causing most of the problem) to help them prepare for the changing climate. All in all, I definitely recommend this book. If you have no idea whats going on, I urge you to read it, as he has the most realistic, hopeful way of presenting the facts and possibilities that I have come across.
