Ive just attended an incredible two-day conference entitled Shaped by Beauty at Heythrop College in London, examining the intersection of music, visual art, ethics, theology, and spirituality. I presented a short paper on the contribution of secular artists to the life and ministry of the church entitled The Artist as Prophet, Priest, and Holy Fool, and was humbled to count myself among such an impressive interdisciplinary group of artists, philosophers, composers, theologians, liturgists, ethicists, art therapists, historians, performers, etc. A powerful experience. They have given me much to ponder. I also had an opportunity to catch up with Dr. Tom Beaudoin, professor at Fordham University, New York area bassist, postmodern scholar of theology/popular culture/rock music/etc, and one of the advisors for my masters thesis. He told me that the conclusion of my thesis was very punk rock. Which made me very, very happy.
