Ive just posted this on the HKExpats for Umbrella Revolution page but want to share this with my FB friends too. If you are interested in helping then please tell me. Would anyone in this group be interested in helping me with a new angle of protest? We cannot rely on street demonstrations as the only way to apply pressure to achieve real rather than counterfeit universal suffrage and we need to branch out. Applying pressure to the business community, in particular the businesses owned by the tycoons who fell over themselves to be the first to brownnose Xi Xinping, must be the next step. These tycoons rely on us protesters patronising their businesses for their wealth so if we can find a way to hit their pockets, maybe via targeted boycotts of certain companies, then they will think twice before acting the way they do. Stephen Viness article in SCMP a few days ago addressed this very point and is one of the best articles Ive read this week. As expats we are well-placed to do this as, generally, expats are wealthy and influential in their companies (Im not BTW).
