Ive just sent this article into the WB for publication this Thursday 6th Nov, 2014 and now look forward to meeting members and their friends at the next meeting on 12th November when we welcome Mike Hindle. Ive seen his website and spoken to him on the phone and he seems a pretty interesting fellow and we do look forward to sharing our meeting with him. Truro Art Society: Our Autumn/winter programme of events continues apace and so far we have enjoyed two excellent, most entertaining evenings. In September Lee Stevenson, recently returned from Vietnam, visited us and introduced, in a most detailed and entertaining manner, the art and craft of Lino Printmaking and did this by demonstration and projected computer images. If we thought, before the event, we knew a good deal of the subject, such smugness was soon diminished by the quality images he produced, showing very wide differences between the abstract and impressionist, lack of detail, and the detailed, almost woodcut/lithographic styles (including areas of colour) and the clever methods of achieving either with few, but specialist cutting tools and tricks of the trade. I reckon each of us, at the end of the evening, felt inspired and enabled to go home to start producing masterpieces and it is going to be interesting to see some examples later in the year. Our Tutored Life Drawing Experience? Well, what a grand success that turned out to be and what an excellent tutor was Ann Bennett-Lofthouse, along with her equally excellent model, Victoria Edwards. We enjoyed five longish poses (and wondered how on earth she managed to remain so still for each of them) and, as I have mentioned elsewhere, our resultant drawings did display (I think) that our lifetimes spent drawing and painting, getting used to the line, the curve, the shadow, reflections, shade, etc, really did pay off and encouraged us to wish to repeat the experience. This was an excellent evening enjoyed by each of us there. Our next event will be held on Wednesday, 12th November in the usual place (Truro High School for Girls, Drama Studio, Daniel Road/Daniel Court entrance), but note, especially, the 12th, 2nd Wednesday in the month, is not our usual-third-Wednesday-in-the-month meeting date; the change has been made so as to avoid having a social meeting on the same day as the Festival of Lights in the city. On this evening we are very pleased to welcome Mike Hindle who will talk to us about his work, especially landscape and abstract painting. He is a very busy and successful international artist, living in Penwith with a largish and very nice open garden that he invites groups of artists to, to paint, pleine aire. December 6th we are having our traditional Christmas Get-together party in the Truro Girls High School, and, as we say on our programme, this is a pleasant opportunity for members, family and friends to enjoy each others company in a party atmosphere of chit chat, competitions, display of members work (this year, a seasonal picture), food and drink - the more the merrier! I should highlight that at last we have a person to organise our workshops and visits, one Val Taylor, who already has got us visiting Falmouth, is arranging a pen and ink drawing workshop early next year and has programmed visits to particular exhibitions in Penlee House and the Tate. We wish her well. We are also pleased to confirm, barring accidents, that our 2015 exhibitions have been booked as follows: Chacewater Garden Centre 11th June to 5th July, 2015: Trelissick Garden Stables, Feock, 3rd to 20th September, 2015. Should you wish to join our society, contact Margaret Pedler on Truro 01872 270955 or [email protected]. Currently our membership fee is £17 pa pp or £28 per couple living in the same address. Our website is truroartsociety.co.uk and we have a Facebook account Truro Art Society, Cornwall.
