Ive just spent a few minutes scrolling through GoFundMe reading about fundraisers close to my zip code, 30747. Currently there are 772 of them listed. Several things are clear from the beginning: 1. There are many, many people in need right now. 2. The phrase in need can be interpreted in many, many ways, anything from honeymoon expenses to homeless families with hungry children. 3. Overall, people appear to be more eager to give money to help animals and sports teams than humans in distress. Dont get me wrong, I see nothing inappropriate in helping animals and sports teams. But what does it say about us as a society when we will freely give it up to get a cat neutered but wont contribute one cent to help a homeless family feed their kids? GoFundMe is an awesome way to really do some good in this world. Check it out.
