Ive known this for quite a longtime, but its worth sharing with some of the newbies. Some people may not realize, but there are no private beaches in the state of Hawaii. That means you can get into any private place with shoreline access, closed resorts or neighborhoods. When you get to any security gate with shoreline access, you just tell them you are trying to access the beach and they will give you a special pass after taking your license plate number. So if you wanted to check out any of the beaches at the resorts or private neighborhoods up on Big Island, just remember this... With a few limited exceptions carved out to accommodate the federal government, all beaches in Hawaii are open to the public: they belong to no one and everyone. County governments and private developers are required to provide public access and parking in areas where the shoreline is dominated by residential dwellings. When visiting the islands, take advantage of the states open beach policy to visit some of the archipelagos scenic strands of sand.
