Ive learned through personal experience and being a product of the inner city (West Perrine) why inner kids are set for failure. A large majority of inner city kids have the dreams of removing their family one day from the inner city and become a professional athlete which is understandable. However, majority of these kids parents never attended college or trade school and preach college, but never went deep in detail showing their child the different degrees and schools ranking. The kid will use his athletic ability to attend college, mission accomplish for the parent but hell more than likely be placed into Liberal Arts, African American Studies etc. Because the family never discussed majors and both of yall (Parent and child) focus is on the NFL. Theres varoius degress college coaches will place you in just to pass that doesnt carry any weight in the working environment. What happens if the kid isnt projected to be drafted when he turns in his papers to the NFL or suffers a career ending injury? The kid will feel like a failure in life because those majors arent money making careers and he failed removing his money from the inner city. These parents must start showing their kids during grade school the varous majors, pay scale and school ranking. At least theyll have an idea of what they would one day want to become instead of just being an athlete or rapper. Inner city athletes are less pressured to make it knowing they have a backup plan that pays well. I always see kids post they have to make it to get their family out the hood. Understand you the athlete isnt not a bank. If they survived this long without you theyll be fine. Help the ones who helped you without asking for anything in return. Now thats your family. If you the athlete make it to the league invest your money and not just on these high maintenance women, cars, jewlery, big houses, because understand when your career is over and you havent invested wisely youll have to downgrade your lifestyle.
