Ive long been a proponent of protecting predators and not removing them for our convenience. I totally get wanting to protect our own property and lives (including the lives of our pets, our herds, and even our crops) from predators and pests, but I have always spoken out against completely ridding areas of what was there before we got there. As an environmentalist, I even support hunting because, as we continue to discover every time some misguided environmental group or anti-predator group sticks its collective nose in, those cute little doe-eyed deer sipping water from a brook (name that movie!) and all the other little critters can destroy an ecosystem just as fast as humans can if we remove their checks and balances. Sure, I wish that all the animals could live in harmony with each other and nothing needed to kill to survive, but thats not how the world works. Humans are not the only destructive force on this planet, and were not even the best at it. But we are the only species who has the big brains that can think of long-term consequences, and can CHOOSE to do or not do something even if it is more beneficial for another species than us. youtube/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ysa5OBhXz-Q
