Ive never actually posted about my problem child as I dont really - TopicsExpress

Ive never actually posted about my problem child as I dont really need advice, besides, Ive quit expecting to fix him, and just enjoy him for who he is, and manage his fear. I know this is not really accepted most people think dogs with issues should be worked with until fixed... but honestly, he is my crossover dog, whom I ruined in the first place (with a prong and balanced training), and then got my head on straight and its been a steep learning curve ever since. Hes a brilliant dog, but fear rules when it comes to strange people and dogs. He has a strong prey drive, is territorial, protective, (fear) aggressive and athletic. Its not the greatest mix lol. But he can learn to do anything! So, while I havent given up on him, I finally learned to lower expectations, and both of us are happier. He knows tons of tricks and behaviours, and loves learning new things. I use his brain to tire him out because I can walk him for hours without being able to. He would have made a fantastic lure-coursing/agility/flyball/rally-o/canine freestyle dog, but with his aggression, its just not going to happen. I still work with him if we inadvertently get into a situation. But mostly, I try to avoid triggers and stress and just have fun. So I guess I dont really have a question so much, as just wanting to chat with others in similar situations, see if anyone else has quit trying to fix their dogs and just let them be themselves. I know this isnt what most trainers would do, but Oliver is pretty bad, and, while hes only 6, I just dont want to push him or me anymore. Heres a vid from 2 years ago youtu.be/AyHECqROxNk
