Ive never been a big fan of kettlebell swings in training for the weight over bar. Reasons being: 1. Its too short. A kettlebell cannot replicate the implement because the length creates a vastly different angle and counterbalance. 2. Its too light. If youre going to swing something thats 56 lbs, make it be the implement and actually throw it. When you dont release something that size, you can jeopardize some technique, which brings me to ... 3. It stops accelerating because you stop accelerating. Because youre not letting it go, you stop pulling on it once it clears your legs. You would never throw like that, so lets not spend a bunch of time training like that. Work some heavy band pull-throughs, as the band wont alow you to slow down. It forces your body to keep pulling, and to actually pull harder and faster just to keep moving! If you are dead set on swings, then severely overload it on a Hungarian Core Blaster and swing to work the posterior. Those two things right there will light up the posterior. A kettlebell is an amazing piece of equipment that has stood the test of time. I would never discredit it. I simply caution you to compare it to the weight over bar event, as they are two distinctly different animals. Cage your animals ... (that last phrase serves no purpose other than any phrase with the word cage is cool).
