Ive never been shot or choked or beaten by the police. Its not because of my skin color. Many people who share my skin color have been arrested, beaten and killed over the years. Ive never been shot, choked or beaten by the police because when a police officer tells me to do something my response has always been the same: Yes sir or Yes maam and then I do as the authority figure has told me to do. Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. (Romans 13:1-3) When we resist authority this is called rebellion. Most of the tragic things in the news in the last few weeks were not caused by police brutality. They were brought on because someone was taught that it was great to be rebellious and then they rebelled. According to Romans 13:2, they brought judgement on themselves. I dont enjoy that people have died in all this....I hate that. I just think that to prevent more needless deaths people would do well to understand that Gods view on this is valid. Honoring Him and His Word will cause a lot of this strife to evaporate. (Sadly, I dont anticipate seeing that happen. Rebellion is celebrated so, regrettably, there will be more of this chaos and disorder.)
