Ive never faced more body shaming in my life until I moved to DC. I cant say I have always been in the healthiest of shape; but when you are dealing with the stressors of life and it all seems so overwhelming...sometimes one can lose oneself. At the same time I never felt more self conscious about myself in my life until I moved here and started being rejected over and over again in small ways and sometimes very overt ways simply because of how I looked. And as I went through these experiences I also asked myself what JK Rowling beautifully articulates in this quote and that has everything to do with character and accountability. And I think its an important reminder to seek out the best in all individuals for the totality of who they are. If you cant accept me at this point in my life because of how I look, or if you accept me now because of how I look- but ignore the far greater beauty that lies within... That is so sad. Appreciate these sentiments. (As a caveat- I also want to be honest that I have body shamed people I love in the past and it is probably the biggest regret Ill ever have because I made them feel like crap rather than lifting them up).
