Ive never hated my career more, than I do now. Seriously, I used to bleed live production. There were times where I would triple dip on a single event. Not because I had too, but because I could. There used to be times where if I had free time, I would book myself just to be at a show. You couldnt pull me away from shows. Even if I wasnt working, youd still find me at a show. What happened? The industry has changed. I remember a time when you absolutely had to throw a deck, build a stage, before you could touch a console. Now, Ive never seen so many Prima Donnas in one room it kinda turns my stomach, especially the ones who demand respect, yet hasnt earned it. Those types really annoy me and I find I dont and most usually wont, work with them. Hell, I remember a time when regulations was just a pipe dream. Now, theyll let anyone in. We used to be a rare breed, now, its a revolving door of people who think they have a clue, but dont. One of the attractions to this industry was exactly that. The tightness. The door wasnt opened to just anyone, and if you got past it, you considered it an honor. Now, its like a sloppy cesspool of whores. Theres nothing spectacular anymore. Its just average. Oh and the liars, Im starting to notice more lies and backstabbing from within. Its pretty pathetic. I truly love live production like nothing else in the world, but as I get older and watch it change, it just doesnt have the feel it used to. At least for me.
