Ive never met so many writers as I have recently at Streamline Tavern, the local popular dive bar. Even in school, not writers really. This week I met NYTimes Best Seller list author Domingo Martinez, he was fascinated enough by me reading in a secluded corner to strike up a conversation about the book and buy me a beer. A good guy, I hope to see him again. A little (a lot?) perplexed by success and his current career choices, I had a definite sense of melancholy in him and longing for that intangible something that drives so many creative people. It seems a relatively easy energy to tap when one considers there are an infinitely greater number of impossibilities than of possibilities. Yet the energy of longing and passion is the same energy whether for the possible as for the impossible. Adiós, Domingo. Hasta luego. Streamline is some kind of cosmic nexus for writers, too bad its closing next month and moving out of the immediate Uptown neighborhood. The Korean Consulate bought the corner and is tearing it all down. Well see what the cosmic forces have to say about this, in writing.
