Ive never posted on here before, but figure you guys might have some valuable advice. Im about 118000 words into my first novel, and my writing method is basically just to get it out - construct the skeleton of the beast, and then, once its there, begin to layer it. I mean, Im not just mailing it in. I reread what I wrote the day before, and do my best to be evocative in my language and tone, etc. But I could hardly be said to be putting my soul into the finer points of it yet. Ive been working on the possibly flawed assumption that once the first draft is finished, Ill be able to breathe life into the thing in the edit. I think Im just afraid that if I take my time and try to craft every sentence perfectly in its turn, my native laziness will win out, and Ill never finish. Does anyone else use this method? Is it naive? Thanks :)
