Ive noticed a handful of publicly available faces with very nice custom hour/minute/second hands have been taking an interesting approach thats actually causing functionality problems with the second hand. When you create a graphic to use for a watch hand, your graphic should NOT be a large (e.g. 250x250) square graphic thats mostly transparent with a small visible portion for the hand in the middle. Doing so will allow you to simply drop the graphic in place and set up the simple rotation, but it will also result in the watch face taking more than a second to update the hands rotation. This means your second hand will lag and jump like crazy rather than smoothly rotating or even ticking like it should. Even when its transparent, the watch spends time displaying that transparency before determining what on the next layer down needs to be displayed as well. The less unnecessary transparent portions of the image that are included in the image, the better the watch face will function. The correct way to create a custom hand is to create a graphic where the bounds of the visible portion of the hand are also the image bounds. The hand should then be appropriately sized within the app youre using when you import the image (using width and height) so it appears as desired. This has been a peeve of mine for a while since its made a number of otherwise very nice looking faces completely unusable because the second hand lags and jumps. #TipsTues360 #AndroidWear360
