Ive noticed on my own FB page that when I start a feminist-slanted thread, it attracts or even gets hijacked by men eager to point out how they also suffer and are victimized... I used to be annoyed by this, seeing it as a demonstration of how many men dont or wont *listen* to women or express genuine interest in their perspective and lived experience. But Ive come to realize that, perhaps ironically, its within these discussions around feminism that men find one of the few spaces in which to give voice to their own experience of vulnerability. And if feminism is to truly include boys and men -- which it needs to do, because it cant change the world without them, and because we cant talk about one gender without implicitly discussing the other -- we have to honor that. If we can meet in this space of shared pain and suffering -- of vulnerability -- and listen to each other, we can transcend the anger and the vitriol and do some truly epic shit.
