Ive noticed over my years in Huntington that the street signs are only given an east/west indicator in the west end of the city (the area west of First Street). After a few times of driving to a location that turned out to be 30+ blocks from the place I actually needed to be, I decided to look into it. Over the course of my research, Ive discovered that ORIGINALLY, all streets were to have the directional indicator, and it is simply out of bias toward the east end of the city that the directional indicators were dropped from the streets east of First Street (First Street, being the dividing line, is neither east nor west). In an attempt to correct this bias, we will be using the east/west indicator on all numbered streets from now on. However, as old habits die hard, I apologize in advance for the times when I will forget. -AMF While Im on the subject, for the outsiders and newcomers to the city, Huntington has many neighborhoods, but is generally divided into 4 main sections: the East End/West End divider is First Street while the North Side/South Side divider is the CSX railroad tracks.
