Ive noticed that a lot of people are bashing those of us who posted no makeup selfies in honor of breast cancer patients, warriors, and survivors everywhere.. Always for every positive theres a handful of negatives.. Everyones entitled to their opinions so Id like to voice mine.. I am the granddaughter of a survivor and it did my heart good to see so many beautiful ladies stepping out of their comfort zone and posting bare faced pictures for the world to see in a society where outward appearance is everything. Some say that weve unknowingly hurt these brave women over a fad and that there was no honor in the simple gesture. We didnt ask to be called heroes, nor did we need a trophy. We simply wanted them to know that they are supported and backed by women around the world! One blog said it hurt them to see pictures of all of these ladies beautiful and HEALTHY and without the tell-tale battle marks of cancer. Sounds just a bit selfish to me. Instead of being thankful to have millions of women around the world including celebrities recognize your battle and let you know that youre never forgotten or alone, youd rather be angry that we arent sick too yet we have the audacity to take a picture of ourselves at some of our least attractive moments in your honor? Hows taking a picture with no makeup in honor of you any different than wearing a save the tatas shirt with my hair fixed and my makeup on??. Or even shaving our heads in honor of our cancer warrior? Who am I to talk? Ill tell you... Im the PROUD cervical cancer warrior who has fought my disease off and on since 2007 and Im damned proud every single time my friends and family wear their teal in October in honor of the ladies like me!! Cervical and ovarian cancers are the #1 leading cause of death in women.. Thats right, even more than breast cancer, because its a silent killer. Keep up with your Pap smears because by the time there are symptoms, its already too late..... #teampink #teamteal #teamburgundy #breastcancer #ovariancervicalcancer #multiplemyeloma #awarenessforwarriors #kickingcancersass
