Ive noticed that one of the Admins on this list is deleting my posts and it reminded me of this very important hadith which I think we all need to actively remind ourselves of each day. Its quite frightening, really.. In an authentic Hadith reported by Imams Muslim and At-Tirmidhi, the Prophet (saw) said, “One will not enter Paradise, if one has an atom’s weight of arrogance in his/her heart.” I put a lot of time into preparing what I post here, praying that it serves as a valuable piece of information or reminder that resonates within anyone who reads it. I have no intention other than that and it saddens me that someone may be deprived of a message that really could make a difference in their life. I love our deen and I feel that Islam is the perfect way of life because it serves as the guidance one needs to be successful in this life and in the Hereafter. The true and ultimate success, in sha Allah, is being granted forgiveness and a life in Jannah. As Muslims, we have such an important role in life to share this valuable message to the rest of the world. When our deen is conveyed properly, it fills one with love, courage, guidance, hope and, most importantly, iman (faith). Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: A servant of Allah will remain standing on the Day of Judgment until he is questioned about his (time on earth) and how he used it; about his knowledge and how he utilized it; about his wealth and from where he acquired it and in what (activities) he spent it; and about his body and how he used it. [Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 148] The Prophet (saw) said, The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Quran and teach it. [Al-Bukhari, 5027] It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: ‘Whoever is asked about knowledge that he has and he conceals it, will be bridled on the Day of Resurrection with reins of fire.’” [Sunan Ibn e Majah, Hadith 266] In a hadith, the importance of the right intention (niyyah) in seeking knowledge is explained: It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: “Whoever seeks knowledge in order to argue with the foolish, or to show off before the scholars, or to attract people’s attention, will be in Hell.” [Sunan Ibn e Majah, Hadith 253] Our sole purpose in this dunya is to serve Allah (swt), to praise Him alone and to realize that our entire life is a test to bring us back to Him. In that, we learn that this level of faith is not attainable unless we completely submit to him, humble ourselves before Him and leave arrogance, pride, and ego behind. There is absolutely no room for them in our souls if we truly wish to live as believers and worship properly. Allah (swt) is the King of all kings. He alone has the right to be arrogant if He wished to. Definitely not us. But instead, He is the most Kind, Loving and the All-Merciful. Yet amongst ourselves, we deprive each other of these feelings and emotions as if they will cost us something or reduce our value. And indeed We have put forth every kind of example in this Quran, for mankind. But, man is ever more quarrelsome than anything. Quran [18:54] Arrogance, pride and ego are forms of diseases in the heart. Rid yourselves of them as you would chase away a virus and make sure that they find no resting place inside you in the future. Allah (swt) tells us in the Quran that He turns the arrogant people away from being guided with His signs. He, the Almighty, says “I shall turn away from My Ayah (verses of the Quran) those who behave arrogantly on the earth, in a wrongful manner.” Quran [7:146] The most severe arrogance is being arrogant against Allah (swt) and rejecting submission and worshiping Him. Allah Almighty says, “Verily! Those who disdain My worship (because of arrogance), they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!” Quran [40:60] It is said that knowledge makes people humble, while arrogance makes people ignorant. May Allah (swt) guide anyone with an ounce of goodness in their heart, keep us rightly guided and never leave us astray. Ameen.
