Ive noticed this has been a problem for many years, and Animethon does not crack down on it, so I think Ill take it upon myself to help the Edmonton anime community this time round. Bootleg merchandise. I got an X-Pass for once, so the plan is to take a look at the booths around Animethon an hour before its open to the general public, and warn you guys about booths selling fake merchandise. We should /not/ be supporting the bootleg industry! I know there are people who dont care, but honestly, you should. Not only are you paying a high price for something with poorer quality, but youre also supporting an illegal trade. Im amazed that companies such as Comex Hobby are allowed to come back every year when half their store is full of fakes. :| It says right in the vendor policy that bootlegs are not tolerated, but still there are so many stores slipping under the radar / being ignored. It decreases the quality of a vendors hall when you have companies like this coming in. For collectors, it can result in devastating disappointment. As a person who would rather pay more for the actual product over a cheap imitation, I want everyone to be aware of how they spend their hard earned coin. c: If anyone else in the community would be willing to help me out with this one, thatd be lovely!
