Ive observed a gray fox habitually roll on and appear to lovingly caress my dogs outdoor bed. I knew this wasnt marking its territory behavior. I researched such behavior. The most likely explanation is that some animals roll in other animal scents to mask their own scent for protection from predators. The video will be replaced with a better one shortly. Ive observed the behavior live and have seen the foxs face. Its very endearing to watch. It looks joyful and comforted when it does this action. Stay tuned for further testing of this hypothesis.
