Ive often featured deities as one of the driving forces of my campaigns even when I was younger. I either present them as 1) They are not terrestrial beings who has to work through intermediaries (clergy types) or 2) They are present in the world and they influence events directly. For the latter I dont have deities govern an aspect of the world. Like God A being the God of Wind, God B being the God of War, etc... Each god is basically the central focus of a nation or race. So they do not just have priests but they have engineers, soldiers, scholars working for whatever goals they have. I treat these deities like forces of nature instead of just something that a player aspires to kill for xp. Id like to discuss how you guys handle deities in your games.
