Ive often said that the insurgents are better armed. In a head-on confrontation, they stand a better chance. This is so because whether skeptics like it or not, the Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), electrically powered Anti Air-craft (AA), Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), Alexander Kalashnikov assault rifle (AK47) and M16 British assault rifles the outlaws brandish with inpunity are of far better quality than the jam-prone mediocre the Nigerian Army risk their lives with. Also, while an average soldier spends a very limited time on arms drill at the Depot NA with infinitesimally little or no experience thereafter, most of these insurgents have had several years of combat experience with Al Shabab, Al Qaeda, Al Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS and et cetera (Mohammed Yusuf and Abubakar Shekau used to boast of this). An average soldier is a product of the hapless Nigerian youth resorting to join the army as a means of employment. With such a mindset, the primary concern is the remuneration after 30 days and not some fathom defence of territorial integrity. The terrorists however, are daily hardened by their conviction that dying for the cause is like a rite of passage to an eternal bliss. And while the Nigerian troops are mindful of collateral damage, the heartless insurgents dont give an ants piss whose ox is gored. One needs to be at the Nigerian Army end of this confrontation to appreciate the soldiers decision to retreat, restrategise, re-enforce and restrike...
