Ive only told this story a few times, but here goes... I was a young twenty something, a new dad and working at our central appraisal district. My boss at the time asked me to speak with the property owner behind our offices because of a fence dispute, legal descriptions are my specialty. The neighbor is approaching us behind the office, my boss extends his hand, and neighbor looks at me and states, you brought your yard man for this meeting? , my heart sank. There I am, with pressed slacks, starched button down shirt, and completely insulted by this mans comment... I cannot express to you my FB family how we need to fight daily for equality, I still till this day feel the sting of that old mans bigotry, the sad part, when I think its gotten better, theres always that old man... And his ignorance.
