Ive overheard so much trash talking about chicago bowlers not showing up to events that i feel the need to speak up. There are many people who have big mouths and huge followings that i do not consider news worthy. They will stay in their home centers in the city and put up enormous numbers nightly.. Dont care... There are the top notch guys like nelson who do this for a job and have a right to be picky about the events they bowl.. Leave em alone... There are the run to the mil guys (like me) who live on a budget and can depend on a last cash spot more times than not. And then there are the donators/complainers/losers who will always donate lose and complain.. But we seem to give them such a strong voice and influence on how our tournaments are ran... Everyone has their two cents on how to run a tournament and i know its quite annoying and mostly useless, but here is my idea of a successful illinois tour. A. There must be a form of consistency.. Knowing there will be an event every third week etc. is a huge asset to someone who is trying to plan their bowling schedule.. I understand this may water down events at first.. But its a catalyst to build something bigger. B. The payouts must be bottom heavy. Yes this is an unpopular opinion around here, but if youre one of the better bowlers without a win on your resume, cashing every tournament and losing money gets old FAST. C. The shots must be fair! If it were me picking shots, they would be boot hill tough everytime... But they cant be... And they cant be china either... They should be in that 2-1 to 4-1 ratio and medium every time. This way nobody feels shut out and nobody feels like they should sit one out because they cant hit long or short... D. The tournament director should have a unique form of stubbornness and confidence in what they are building. This means not changing things cause the guy in 40th place said the shot was too hard or complained about expense money. E. They have to be affordable!! We all enjoy bowling for big checks.. But lets face it, with the landscape of this economy, a 100 dollar tournament entry isnt reasonable for most people to put down on a regular basis. I think the 40-50 dollar range is perfect and the big timers can still make a payday with more brackets and pots. Maybe set a dollar aside per entry and have a big one at the end of the year... So this is all just my opinion. Its biased, its even a little ignorant, but its something i havent seen around here since being a youth bowler. Its NOT a knock on anyone and i will not entertain an internet fight with any tournament director who says you have no idea... Its simply my best idea of a solid scratch tour in my backyard. All ideas/comments/concerns welcome.. But all in all its my hope that someone makes this happen
