Ive posted stories before about my birds...the seventeen crows. And the maggies...and the nuthatches, finches, black capped chickadees, jays, bluebirds, sparrows, an owl or two, hawks, falcons and pigeons. I glance out kitchen window and see two magpies which are members of the jay family and this tan bird with a ring around its neck. Its about the same size as a flicker maybe. It kinda looks like a flicker but I thought is it a grouse? Nope. Is it a pheasant? Nope. Its a still unidentified bird and I suspect a female. Now whats really interesting, or so I thought, was one of the maggies had a piece of red plastic or maybe it was a red wrapper? It was a large red something that the bird had in its beak. And it kept presenting it to the tan bird. Presenting like hey look at this red thing. The tan bird was just kinda wandering around clueless...seemingly not interested. And the maggie still wanted to present the red thing tho...a courting gesture? And it wasnt a female maggie. The second weird thing about the bird observation. Cross species courting? Who does that?
