Ive probably said this before. Were talking about taking and giving fire in Vietnam. Meaning they shoot at us we shoot back. Well my first 13 months we could shoot anything and everything in what was called a free fire zone. No one was supposed to be in area. Well sometimes Women and children were in the zone and they had to be killed. Not what I wanted to do but thats orders . We obeyed our orders . Shot many of them many many times but also shot the guys dressed in black pjs.. Well when I went back for second tour we could not shoot anyone anywhere unless we called a Airforce base and gave them our location. If they said ok we shot everyone in zone. Now sometimes we would go into a zone and come close to landing and they would be hundreds of them shooting at our Hueys. We would pull out as fast as we could and call Airforce to get permission to return fire. Sometimes said yes but you would be suprised hiw many times they said NO.Sometimes if we were taking a lot of fire the Real Hero Pilots would say unplug your speaker cord on your helment so we couldnt respond or hear anything they said. Before we unplugged the Pilot would say you protect this bird no matter what. He told us Im not going to go down without a fight. Other pilots would say if you shoot you get court martial when we get back. Taking much fire couldnt shoot back. Thats how it was on Marine Corps Huey Gunships. Not Army or Navy but thats how we had to do it. Grunts were not under same orders I dont think. But you could see kids and women and gooks all shooting at us but we had to get out not return fire. People say they would do this or thst but we obeyed orders. Only person I absolutely know THAT would kill them all no matter if given permission or not. MY HERO JIMMY COX HE WAS THE MAN
