Ive read quite a few posts this week about racism, police brutality, depression and even about the death of Robin Williams. Im probably gonna lose a few friends and start animosity with this post, but its time to throw in my two cents worth as well: In my line of work, I encounter and work with many different races of people and it is true, racism is definitely still present. However, Ive noticed that these days, minorities are the most racist. Not just Black people, but Native Americans and Hispanic as well. Im a minority and yes, Ive been a victim of racism from white people on several occasions but Im not gonna let the ignorance of a few idiots determine my attitude towards a whole race in general. Come on people, we live in a society where its not about whos most qualified for the position, its about making sure theres an equal representation of race so no one complains. Its 2014, you need to accept the fact that some people are gonna be ignorant and get over it or run for president and figure out a way to change the world like all our other fearless leaders have failed to do. Police brutality exists as well and is unfortunately becoming more and more prevalent. There are bad apples in every bunch. It happens. But dont let these officers actions depict how you feel towards law enforcement in general. I dont know what happen with the unarmed kid who got shot last week. I wasnt there. But the fact that he was black and the officer was white is not even relevant. He was unarmed and thats what should be arousing suspicion. Im sure a good investigation will be done and if the officer was wrong, then he deserves the same punishment anyone else would get. Sad part is, however, if he was justified in using deadly force, then know one will even care. Hell always be remembered as the white cop who shot an unarmed black kid. Hell probably have to find another line of work and more than likely move his family somewhere safe. Its the part of our job that no one understands. As far as the topic of depression and the death of Robin Williams, people complain that his death received too much publicity and it wasnt that serious. He was a movie star, a motivational speaker and a comedian. Do you really think his death was gonna be a quick news flash and then things go back to normal the next day? Get over it. Let the man get the respect that people want to give and if you dont like it, turn the tv off and go do something productive. This just goes to show that even people who pretend to be happy and try to motivate others arent always happy themselves. If people put as much time and effort into being positive as they did being negative then the world would be a better place.
