Ive read some pretty unpleasant, ignorant and racist posts today regarding the Michael Brown verdict. But this is a repost that sums it up 100% correctly: My heart aches. My heart aches for the family of Michael Brown who feel as if they have no form of justice over the loss of their son. Regardless of the outcome, their child is still dead. My heart aches for the family of Darren Wilson. They receive death threats every day and have had to abandon their home. Their way of life will never be the same. My heart aches for the community of Ferguson. Last night alone, 150 bullets were shot, 12 buildings were burned, 82 people were arrested. Peaceful protestors were overlooked for the violence. These are people. These are not numbers, these are fathers, wives, husbands, mothers, brothers, sisters, children, humans. This community may never find peace again. My heart aches for America, where a racial divide still exists, aided by the government and the media. People love people, but races systematically cannot get along. We wanna talk about the problem? We want to blame everyone else, but we are ALL the problem. We are the problem when we automatically assume that a black kid is a thug or that a white cop is racist. We are the problem when we can’t understand why people of color don’t trust the system. We are the problem when we celebrate that a man is free in the face of a family that lost their little boy. We are the problem when we believe we know all the facts from that night even though we weren’t there. We are the problem when we selectively hate the justice system only when it doesnt go our way. We are the problem when we allow the media to report only the violence and not the large majority of peaceful protestors. We are the problem when we let this case divide us even further. It is impossible to live in a world without color, and we are the problem when we try to be colorblind. Race is important—it is in the fabric of our being. We are the problem when we try to ignore race rather than embrace it. We need empathy. We need love. We need diversity. We need education. We need peace. We need compassion. We need prayer. We need help. We all matter. Each one of us. Mike Brown matters, Officer Wilson matters, the people of Ferguson matter. We must find a way to live in a world that acknowledges how important and sacred each of our lives really is. God help us, help us all. AMEN!!!!!!
