Ive realized something about Leonardo DiCaprio. He either doesnt have a lot of range or doesnt display it enough. Basically he does the same thing every movie. He chews up scenery, and hes probably the best at it. While Wolf of Wall Street and Django Unchained did have him stretch his normal tropes out a bit, its still his tropes. For example of an actor of similar caliber and status getting acclaimed for different types of performances I give you Brad Pitt. 12 Monkeys was complete scene chewing, Fight Club was a reserved madness not unlike Alex DeLarge or Nolans Joker, but Benjamin Button is a completely different type of performance. He doesnt yell or do his head rubbing or any of his usual tricks. I think Leo is the best at what he does, but Id like to see some more reserved contemplative performances.
