Ive realized that when I post anything to Facebook that might be construed as having an opinion about something, I immediately brace for a negative impact, regardless of topic. Worse still, Im finding that I automatically mentally tally who is likely to go out of their way to intentionally take offense and/or play devils advocate just to push buttons, or just straight out attack me before I post about things like being a decent human being to your fellow man, feminist issues, and science/health issues. This ends now. If I find you utterly incapable of having a rational discussion, we just wont be having them anymore. If you post just to push buttons, you wont be doing it on my pages anymore. If youve friended me just to have a public avenue to crap on me at every possible turn, its over. I tend to keep even people I had insurmountable disagreements with friended because I recognize the value in different opinions, and I understand that the only way to grow is to consider different possibilities from different angles. But in no way is that silent consent to be abusive and crappy. This will take adjustments from me as well. But if Im expected to give everyone the benefit of the doubt that they are expressing their opinion without intent to insult and injure, the actions have to follow the expected intent. Call it what you will - intolerance in my old age, whatever. Im too old for this one-upmanship crap. But expect a very different application of standards from now on. Have a great day!
