Ive received a delightful email from an ex-student of mine who has heard that Ive retired: I have to tell you, that teaching was life changing! As a nineteen year old I would leave the lectures physically reeling, occasionally in tears (that would be Representing AIDS) and be battered by ideas for hours afterward. I am now thirty years old and still working my way through those dog-eared reading lists. After studying on the Representing AIDS module I began doing charity work in the HIV field. I currently work as a psychiatric social worker and jobbing writer and my training began in the HIV resource centre in Liverpool. I blame you entirely for this. The purpose of all this is basically that your teaching and the level of engagement and life you brought to that material has changed the person I am, and Im sure I am far from the only one. Isnt that a kind thought?
