Ive recently started training a horse that was previously ridden - TopicsExpress

Ive recently started training a horse that was previously ridden in running reins and rolkur and was apparently rearing. Hes actually been turned out for 4 years after vetphysio diagnosed and treated him for having 6 of his 7 cervical vertebrae hypermobile. Today I started flexions inhand, and apart from feeling completely braced and like concrete, after ages he started releasing. Everytime he released, his whole head kind of twitched back and forth, from barely perceptible, to fairly obvious. I thought it might be his poll muscles spasming as they decontracted? He made amazing progress once he realised what was happening, and yawned heaps afterwards, and he even seemed to be doing flexions at liberty afterwards. I didnt think it was physically possible for a horse to go from being so braced to releasing so quickly in one session. Has anyone had this experience before with the twitching/nodding back and forth? I need all the advice I can get with this boy, thankyou!
